AP2HI Enhance the Capacity of Processing Staff and Fishermen in Maluku Province
To carry on the training program to AP2HI members, which was started with training of trainer, and then training of fishermen (in Bitung, Larantuka, Kendari, Sendang Biru and Sorong), now AP2HI continues to implement the training programs to the processing plant employees of PT. Aneka Sumber Tata Bahari and PT. Harta Samudra on 23rd and 26th August 2016 in the province of Maluku.
The presentation gave to the processing plant employee were about Being AP2HI Member (what are the benefits and obligations), The Introduction of Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Eco-label and also about Data Collection System. The aim of the training is to make the employees understand their roles in maintaining traceability of the tuna and skipjack products so it will help the company to achieve MSC Fishery and MSC Chain of Custody certification.
Besides the training to processing plant employees, AP2HI also conducted a training to fishermen who are suppliers of PT. Harta Samudra, located in Buru district, Maluku Province on 26th August 2016. The training focused on fish handling on board, maintain the fish quality, sustainable fishing practice, and data collection. AP2HI also tried to gather issues and obstacles that faced by fishermen in doing the fishing practice, so it could be followed up later by relevant parties. Total of 56 of fishermen and 46 processing plant employees were trained in Province of Maluku. Similar training in the future is expected to be implemented in other member of AP2HI.
