The 6th PL & HL FIP Steering Committee Meeting (FIP SC): Strengthening Action & Collaboration towards FIP Implementation
The 6th FIP Steering Committee Meeting was held on January 23rd, 2018 in Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF) office. Various Indonesia pole&line and handline related tuna FIP stakeholders attend to this meeting including Directorate of Capture Fisheries of MMAF, Directorate of Monitoring & Surveillance of MMAF, Indonesian Pole&Line and Handline Fisheries Association (AP2HI), International Pole&Line Foundation (IPNLF), LINI, Masyarakat dan Perikanan Indonesia (MDPI), PT. Hatfield Indonesia, Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP), The Nature Conservancy, and WWF Indonesia.
This meeting was held to share update on stakeholders’ achievement on their FIP action plan and identify steps needed to strengthen and fastened the FIP progress. Each of the stakeholders agreed to have more commitment on FIP implementation and collaboration in FIP activities by providing data and evidence into a shared folder that would be created after the meeting.
One issue that was discussed in the meeting was about vessel registration, which need a same agreed definition on vessel registration that could cover all of vessel registration systems. Another issue was about the draft of bait management plan which still need more robust data as the basis of the plan.
Related to FIP Action Plan, AP2HI & IPNLF proposed to categorize each activity in FIP Action Plan into some regions that would be certified (Unit of Assessment/UoA) for easy tracking & monitoring. The proposal would be distributed to FIP Steering Committee member to get input and would also be consulted with FIP expert.
